Album of the Day: Eric Clapton (8/18/92)

Eric Clapton garnered six Grammy Awards for Unplugged, three for the album and three for the track “Tears In Heaven,” the heartfelt memorial to his 4-year-old son, Conor, who died in March 1991 after a fall off a New York apartment building window ledge. Unplugged was recorded in England in early 1992 for the MTV Unplugged program. Released on August 18, it is generally credited with starting the “unplugged” album craze in the 1990s. Along with “Tears,” the album includes two other singles, the stripped-down, foot tapping, Top 10 version of “Layla” and the mid-charting “Running On Faith.” Unplugged is available on Amazon and iTunesClapton is in Dr. Rock’s Playlist Vault.
