More Songs About Buildings And Food was the Talking Heads’ second album and the first of three studio works produced by Brian Eno. The result was a more consistent and pop-flavored sound, adding funk and reggae layers and danceable rhythms to the simpler, methodic art-rock of their debut LP, Talking Heads ’77. And while More Songs… (released July 14, 1978) fared better than ’77, reaching #29 on the Billboard album chart and spinning off the #26 single “Take Me To The River,” it wasn’t the sales success that critical recognition seemed to predict. The album did broaden the band’s appeal, yet it would be a couple years and two more studio albums before the Heads enjoyed a double shot of platinum success with 1983’s Speaking In Tongues and 1985’s Little Creatures. More Songs… is on Rolling Stones’ Top 500 Albums of All-Time at #382. The album is available for purchase as a CD or individual mp3 files on Amazon, or as iPod tracks on iTunes. Talking Heads appear in Dr. Rock’s Playlist Vault.
